Curse of Fernando

February 19, 2007

Too bad we lost the match to India last Saturday. Hope the guys do a better job next time around at the word cup. Seems New Zealand and England are coming up strong.
Anyways why I write this is to have your attention on to a different topic.
Call it the curse of Fernando!
I have nothing personal nor I know the guy personally. Have you notice that whenever Ranjit Fernando praises one of our guys batting, the guy gets out the next ball/very soon. Example : Mr.RF praises Russel Arnold; Arnold gets out the very next ball. Call me superstitious, but please mr.Fernando, could you keep your mouth shut during the world cup.

Happy 2007

January 15, 2007

First of all let me wish you all a superb 2007.

Looking back at 2006, was an eventful year for me. But I’m not
going to talk about the past now. Let the bygones be bygones.
From the looks of it 2007 is also going to be an eventful one as well.
For starters, January will see me moving to our new place.
Also have a lot ofthings planned, but I’d rather not spill the beans.
You ppl will get the honor of getting to know em when I have
executed them. ;-)

Professional vs Academic

December 12, 2006

Recently I was wondering the difference and pros and cons of the two types of Qualifications – Professional vs Academic..

Someone can say they differ mainly on the scope of study. A professional qualificationis more focused on a narrow scope of study area whereas academic has a more wider range. In other words – depth and breadth. But when you look closely it is not always the case. Some professional courses cover almost the same study area as of an academic study, some times even more.

And another popular point (derived from the above) is it depending on your goal. For example if your aim is to become a consultant the more profitable one would be to follow a professional qualification while an academic qualification would do well for a managerial position.

But what I really believe is that neither can compensate the lack of experience one (doesn’t) have in his/her career. And it wouldn’t hurt backing it up with maybe both – an Academic plus a professional qualification.

Hepatitis

December 2, 2006

Ammi was diagnosed with Hepatitis last Wendsday. She had been down with slight fever for a couple of days and Tested for Hepatits on Tuesday. Still don’t know the exact type, but it was confiremed today, that it’s not B. B and C are said to be more chronical than other types.

Anyways now she needs lots of rest, have to see how she gets it, after all she is used to walk all over the place: doing some gardening, house chores and… bugging my brother :-)
Togather with thathi, I cooked the past couple of days. No complaints yet, makes me wonder what if I divert from my current job from Technical Consultant to Chef?

Anyways I wish ammi to get well soon.

Use of common sense..

April 24, 2006

Yesterday I went to a supermarket and while I was there, this guy came in with a ‘naatu’ dog and was stopped by the security officers there. Guess what? It was high noon and this potato head had gone for a *walk* with the poor old dog. I wonder what he had in mind, trying to bring in the dog. You see these people need to have their brains checked to see if they have one at first place. Now use your common sense, please. I recently read an article on (Un)common sense, but in your day to day life you should really try to use it. Ok, fine you have an old bitch, but keep it at home if you intend to go on public places.

And there are these show-offs who ware sunglasses indoors. Good, you have an expensive pair of sunglasses – fine, but don’t be a fart face – ware them outside please. I remember once I was at a customer site, this guy came in wearing a pair of sunglasses, where you hardly get any sunlight, in fact the only light you get in there is the light if the florescent tubes(I wonder how the dick head maneuvered in side with all those furniture) and to top it all, it was raining cats and dogs outside!! We all had a good laugh that day thanks to him.

A holiday that feels like one..

April 12, 2006

Humm..At last, a holiday spent and felt like a holiday. You know, a day like this, during a time like this, IS hard to come by. Had a cool start to the day with a litter rain in the morning. The streets were empty – relatively – when you come to think about the New Year around the corner. And me, the feeling you get, the relief, when you know you don’t have any exams(..until I start my Masters that is) for some time to come is awesome. Forget about office work, the feeling you get when you are reading a good book under the shades of the trees in your hammock with some juice by your side is far beyond words (Ok – frankly I don’t have a hammock – but you can imagine huh? )
Basically it’s been a superb day, so far. And I felt like writing something on here after a long break.
That’s good :-)

Dreams

March 9, 2006

Hi again :-) It was in the morning and I was in the shower when this idea suddenly struck me.

As human beings we are gifted with the power of thinking (and act accordingly). That’s one reason we are set apart from animals. With the thinking caps on we automatically inherit the ways and means of Dreaming or imagine or as some may like to put it .. wishful thinking. Some people are against it while some are with it – and those who are with it – I’m sure, know *just* dreaming is not enough, you have to act upon it. You are responsible for it and you have to take that first step. For those who dream, do you dream in detail- every little detail in you mind? Because what happens is, sometimes you get stuck with those minor details and you forget the big picture. When you finally get there and can’t find all the finer details, you get disappointed, without giving any regard to that you have realized your dream. So I’d say, Dream-don’t go into too many details-keep your feet on the ground and act upon it.

Family – Knowing and Feeling

January 23, 2006

Been some time since I last post a blog on here. Had quite an eventful time recently.

And as for the country, it’s been the same. Quite evident by all the sounds of ambulances. It seems we are reverting to the ugly days of terror. In a way I’m wondering if this is what the people wanted, after all they had the power of choice. Anyways, enough on that.

Well my friends, today I’m going to talk about something highly important but many folks overlook and at the end all regret – Family – Loved ones. I’m hoping to keep things very simple and compact.

The world today has become very time conscious, they invent things to save time and make living easier. Yet where does all this saved time go? How do you spend it? Take a look at the normal executive, comes to work in the morning, spends around 10hrs. at work – now that make 14hrs. left for the rest of the stuff like commuting, meals, grooming, errands, sleep, etc. and all these are personal stuff. How much time do you spend with your Family? Parents? Siblings? Grand parents? Cousins? Uncles/Aunts? People have become rich – materialistically and poor in values. Now you might say they know how you feel about them, but how many of them really feel it? I’m talking about “feeling” and “knowing“, and there’s a there’s a huge difference between them. You should be genuinely able to say to yourself one day that they “felt” that you really cared for them. Can you say that?

Soda Pop Effect..

January 6, 2006

Was having this idea of joining some sort of a club like Lions or Rotaract or somthing like that for some time now. And finaly went to a meeting/workshop of a certian club last tuesday. Was introduced by a colleague of mine. Pretty impressed from the out come, though I’m in doubt if I want to carry on woth it. The problem with these things is that along the way you lose the momentum, the interest and so on, that you had at the begining. Call it the Soda Pop Effect. Hope this can keep my interest glued atleast for some time to come.
