Hibernation

July 24, 2008

After a long lapse here I am again. Why I didn’t post anything on here? Well, I didn’t feel like it in the first place. Nope, I’m not lazy, Yes I had time – plenty of time, but really I just didn’t feel like putting up a post on here. And after all this time it just struck me; Hey I once upon a time had a Blog!! WordPress has changed it’s look somewhat. (BTW did you ever noticed the WordPress editor itself doesn’t recognize “WordPress” and underlines it as a spelling mistake)

Well… now that I’m back, hope to write some posts soon (Yes, at least one per month ;-) )

The Joy of giving

November 21, 2007

Yes, Christmas is coming nearer, but this isn’t about Christmas gifts (sorry to have you disappointed) ;-) . But having seen/heard people actually enjoying or using something you have put your sweat on, the feeling is really pleasant.

For some years now I’ve been using a simple spread sheet to keep track of my personal finances. Over the years it evolved a lot and some time back I gave some copies to couple of my friends. And now it’s being used by a whole lot of people I don’t even know! It is simply – joyous – to see people actually using it.

Procrastination

October 29, 2007

“Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow”- Something I heard in a talk by Ajahn Brahmavamso about Procrastination\Hierarchy of Life. When you think about the meaning deep enough, it’s really interesting. Maybe that’s why I didn’t write anything on here for sometime ;)

I’ve been listening Ajahn Brahm ’s talks for the last couple of weeks and I must say the pay off is really worth it. Doesn’t matter if you are not a Buddhist, just listen and see if makes appeals to you. You can thank me later :)

Tsunami Alert

September 13, 2007

A series of earthquakes has struck in and around Sumatra yesterday and today. Tsunami alerts had been triggered by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center which I got to know from a friend of mine while I was at work. Brought back those bitter memories of 2004. Wish something like that never happen to anyone anywhere.

But looking at it on a different side, by going through the bulletin issued by the Warning Center, I was surprised to see United Kingdom under alert! First I thought it was some mistake, but scrolling down I saw DIEGO GARCIA which is now occupied by the UK and US military. From what you see at Wikipedia it seems to be a cool place for vacation:)

Compaq T563

August 1, 2007

Bought my self a new laptop. It’s a Compaq T563 with Intel Dual Core 1.7GHz with 1Gb RAM. So far I haven’t played much with it, takes a bit longer than anticipated to boot up with Windows XP. Have to install all the software I use and see how it fares. I have been without a PC for some time now. I could have bought a more powerful Desktop for a cheaper price, but I opted for a laptop for obvious reason of mobility. One con of this model I see is it’s got only 3 USB ports, and with no Bluetooth it seems you don’t have enough USB ports. But, all in all, I would say it’s a pretty decent mechine for an even decent price tag.

Thoppigala Freed-Colombo Not..

July 25, 2007

First of all, hats off for all the brave people who contributed to capturing Thoppigala. It’s a great victory for sure. But at the same time it’s too bad they have to close down certain roads in Colombo.

Being an IT guy I some of the time have to work from Customer sites and one such customer is base near Temple Trees. Couple of days back I had to go out of where I’m working for some matter, and on my way back only to find out that buses towards Colombo are being diverted via Slave Island after 9:30AM!! Darn! It was about to rain, so I took a tuk-tuk for a 5 min. max walk/crawl. And Guess what?! I didn’t know Tuk-tuks in SL run on Rocket Fuel(or at least that’s how they charge you)!!

Back to my point, majority of people in Lanka travel by Bus(like me). So why restrict buses and let all other vehicles pass through?

Makes me wonder, Why don’t they build a parliament in Hambantota;-)

Bumper to bumper.. Colombo under water!

May 4, 2007

I finally got a chance to get to know how bad a traffic jam could be! I thought I was lucky to get a lift by my uncle to Kollupitiya junction. I was indeed lucky, otherwise I’d have sweated to death in a bus :-) First I thought it was some VIP on the go. Wonder why the LTTE couldn’t get their planes off the ground.

My father’s blog

April 25, 2007

Finaly-after waiting for over eight months, time came for me to step into fatherhood. It was an awsome feeling, no words to describe it. But I don’t want to go into more details about in this post. Instead I would like to shift your attention into another side of blogging. Now I could write about what I felt, how I reacted, what went through my mind whlie waiting out side the labour room and so on. But did it ever occured to you how your father reacted or felt when he went through the same experiance when you was born?

I guess our children would know, now that blogging is here. Just hope that blogging would be still there in another dacade or so. Diaries still are, so I guess blogs will be there as well.

Curse of Fernando

February 19, 2007

Too bad we lost the match to India last Saturday. Hope the guys do a better job next time around at the word cup. Seems New Zealand and England are coming up strong.
Anyways why I write this is to have your attention on to a different topic.
Call it the curse of Fernando!
I have nothing personal nor I know the guy personally. Have you notice that whenever Ranjit Fernando praises one of our guys batting, the guy gets out the next ball/very soon. Example : Mr.RF praises Russel Arnold; Arnold gets out the very next ball. Call me superstitious, but please mr.Fernando, could you keep your mouth shut during the world cup.

Happy 2007

January 15, 2007

First of all let me wish you all a superb 2007.

Looking back at 2006, was an eventful year for me. But I’m not
going to talk about the past now. Let the bygones be bygones.
From the looks of it 2007 is also going to be an eventful one as well.
For starters, January will see me moving to our new place.
Also have a lot ofthings planned, but I’d rather not spill the beans.
You ppl will get the honor of getting to know em when I have
executed them. ;-)
